As a non-profit organization, our programs depend on a variety of supporters. Ticket sales contribute about 40% to our operating budget and the rest is raised from individuals, foundations, and businesses who are committed to accessible quality jazz performance and education in our community.
Your contribution supports the Charleston Jazz Orchestra's performances throughout the year, guest artists that perform with the CJO, programming for the Charleston Jazz Festival, and the comprehensive education and outreach programs we offer throughout the year at the Charleston Jazz Academy teaching and exposing the next generation to the art and joy of jazz.
Whether you support our general operations or a specific program, you are making a real difference in keeping jazz alive and thriving in Charleston.
Your gift provides unrestricted support for the operations of Charleston Jazz which includes the Charleston Jazz Orchestra, Charleston Jazz Festival and the Charleston Jazz Academy. Unrestricted gifts give us the greatest flexibility to use funds where they are most needed.
JAZZ DAY FOR KIDS:
Every year, the Charleston Jazz Orchestra performs at the Gaillard Center for 1,600+ elementary and middle school students from the Tri-County area. In addition to the performance, students receive an introduction to the instruments that make up the big band and history about the songs performed. The program is free for schools and students. About half of the students attend Title One schools.
CHARLESTON JAZZ ACADEMY SCHOLARSHIP FUND:
Our scholarship fund provides jazz instruction for students studying at the Charleston Jazz Academy. Scholarships are provided to students in need of financial assistance. Students receive weekly lessons in their instrument of choice, access to master classes, tickets to Charleston Jazz Orchestra performances, and more. One of our generous donors is committed to matching up to 100 scholarships dollar-for-dollar for students studying at the Charleston Jazz Academy. The value of a one-year scholarship is $1,000.
MELODICA PROJECT - AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM:
In partnership with six schools, we offer a free 9-12 week after school program teaching students jazz through the melodica for three hours a week. Students learn the basics of playing the melodica and jazz improvisation.
JAZZ PASS PROGRAM: DONATE $10: Fund a Student Ticket for a Charleston Jazz Orchestra Performance
The Jazz Pass will be given to Charleston area high school and middle school music students who are selected by their band directors and/or music teachers for their hard work, commitment to excellence, positive attitude, or rate of improvement.
Thank you for supporting our mission which is to grow a local and global community for jazz through performance, education and outreach while celebrating and preserving Charleston’s rich history in jazz.
100% of your donation is tax-deductible to extend allowable by law. For any questions, please contact Tatjana Beylotte at email@example.com or (843) 822-0126.
